Getting Started

Step 1: Find an energy advisor in your area and book an appointment

Finding a home energy advisor is easy. For a list of licensed service organizations in your area, click the button below and enter your postal code. Get quotes from available organizations and schedule your home energy audit with an energy advisor that’s right for you. In most cases you can schedule an appointment within a week or two. Ontario will pay half of your audit, up to $150.

Find an Energy Advisor

The Ontario Association of Home Inspectors recommends contacting two to three licensed service organizations before booking an energy audit. Here are some questions to ask:

  • Are you licensed by Natural Resources Canada to perform assessments to qualify for Ontario Home Energy Audit Program rebates?
  • How long will the energy audit take? A good-quality audit should take 1.5 to 2.5 hours.
  • What other services do you offer? There should be no obligation to purchase products or services from the organization that performs your energy audit. However, many provide additional retrofit services. Make sure they have experience in emerging energy efficiency technologies such as instantaneous hot water tanks and solar hot water heating.

Step 2: Complete the Ontario Home Energy Audit Program application form with your energy advisor

During your home energy audit, you will be asked to fill out the Ontario Home Energy Audit Program application form with your energy advisor. Completing this form can save you up to $150 off the cost of your home energy audit.

After the audit, your energy advisor will submit your application on your behalf.

Step 3: Following your home energy audit, consider making improvements to increase your home’s energy efficiency

During your home energy audit, your energy advisor will find your home’s energy leaks and show you what you can do to plug them. Your advisor will provide you with your personalized Energy Efficiency Evaluation Report and a plan that can reduce your energy bills. Your report includes your home’s EnerGuide rating. This shows how energy efficient your home is and how efficient it could be with energy-saving improvements.
