Incentives Programs for Business

There are many conservation and renewable energy programs available in Ontario to help you in your efforts to be more energy aware for your business. They are offered by various levels of government, by local electricity and natural gas utilities, by non-profit agencies, and by many other associations. Whether you are looking for more information, practical assistance, financial incentives, or other resources, the incentives listing for business will assist you in finding the programs best suited to your interests and needs.

These initiatives and programs undertaken by groups and individuals across Ontario are of vital importance to our economy and our environment.

To help Ontario’s small businesses become more energy efficient, manage costs and save money, the province has developed a Five-Point Small Business Energy Savings Plan. Read Helping Small Businesses Save Energy.

DEMAND CONTROL VENTILATION

The amount of fresh air ventilation in many buildings is maintained at a constant level for peak occupancy, regardless of the actual number of people. During lower occupancy periods, over-ventilation results in wasted electricity and money. Demand Control Ventilation (DCV) ensures the optimum amount of fresh air based on occupancy level, reducing operating costs and increasing comfort.

DCV should be considered for any building over 10,000 square feet, especially where there are multiple zones or variations in hourly occupancy level. It is not uncommon to attain 20 to 30 per cent electricity savings with a DCV system with paybacks usually ranging from 12 to 36 months. What’s more, DCV puts less demand on your HVAC system and can improve the marketability of your building.

LED LIGHTING

“With the introduction of commercially-viable LED bulbs and fixtures, businesses can expect unprecedented savings in their electricity costs for lighting – up to 75% savings! Today, there is a large selection of LED bulbs, fixtures and arrays for many types of installations. Since LEDs typically last four to nine times longer than other lighting sources, you don’t have to change them as often. That’s especially important in outdoor or high-bay areas where cranes or lifts are required to reach the fixtures.
